Tutorial # 14 offers a short explanation, and if logged in to the Virtual Microscope, Latest Candidates News mentions current high angle tracks. Looks like we dusters were using the surface of the tile for reference and the team uses a line perpendicular to the surface.

Here is one palpable high angle track:

30012V1

I specifically like the fact that the track is clearly below the surface, in focus, and doesn't have a visible dark spot at the end of the track, so not a garden variety inclusion.
