Javascript Image Loading Error
Q: I'm getting an error that says "Javascript error: Cannot load image http://s3.amazonaws.com... what should I do?
A: We are aware of this error. We originally thought that it had something to do with the way Amazon serves up images and was the result of random errors. We now have some evidence that the error may be caused by corrupted images within the focus movies. We will need your help to track down the problem.
When a javascript error occurs please note the movie id number and report it in this thread.
The error should not affect your ability to search the movie that the error occurs on. Simply close the error windows and search normally ignoring the missing frames. If too many frames are missing to make a good judgement, then click "Bad Focus."
[Update 21 Feb 2007]
We have turned off the javascript error.
If you experience missing frames, simply ignore them and search as normal. If the missing frames prohibit you from making a good judgement about the focus movie then click, "Bad Focus".

Is there a possibility that 2 different users may be accessing the same movie simultaneously? It seems to be affecting the loading of the secondary image exclusively (since the loading bar at top shows breakage on that movie when it happens to me). I have corrected this problem every time by pressing 'reload page' after excusing the error messages. (browser = IE version 6.0.2800.1106)
No dessert for you- ONE MONTH!

Re: Javascript Image Loading Error
FYI only (no response necessary): I have had the JS error in IE6, IE7, and Firefox. When it starts, it seems to come in groups, sometimes with a gap in movies loading incorrectly, sometimes one error movie after another. Once it starts, it happens much more than 1 or 2 times in 100. Refreshing the pages, most of the time, just gives me the same JS error popup. The error appears to occur only 1 to 2 times in 100
Generally I am able to ignore it, but when several image frames on the same movie are not loaded, I sign out and than in and start over. Sometimes that works, sometimes not. If not, I go do something else like catch up on the forum, change the cat's litter box, or whatever.
Frustrating it is, especially when you are an addicted Star Duster, but than I suppose it's good to have an inturruption now and again so we can remember the unimportant things... like eating
I am a relatively new Starduster, having made it through a few hundred real movies so far.
In addition to the previously noted observations, I'll add that the frequency of this error is FAR greater than one or two per 100. More like 20% of all focus movies are affected. Usually they are minor and can be ignored. Often they are bursty (several movies in a row, two or three images in a movie).
A FEW times I found that reloading the page causes the whole movie to come up without errors, but this seems to be the exception rather than the rule.
Frequently I notice a delay loading (or pre-loading) a portion of the movie, followed by the error, as if it is trying to access the image but then times out.

turning off javascript alerts
If you're using Firefox, this is one way to get rid of the error messages (courtesy of a helpful soul at mozillazine forums (http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... 62#2608362 )):
Add the following line to user.js in your default Firefox folder (see below for how to find that).
user_pref("capability.policy.default.Window.alert", "noAccess");
Case is important. This won't work if upper and lower case are not preserved. The final semicolon is important.
The default Firefox directory is buried rather deep. The easiest way to find it is to do a search, one that includes hidden folders, for "prefs.js" (without the quotes). The directory you find may or may not have "user.js" in it. If yes, open it in Notepad or other straight text editor, and add the line above. If not, use Notepad, enter the line above, and save the file as "user.js" in the same directory as prefs.js. Make sure the default Firefox directory you find is actually yours, and not some other user's.
The useless alerts disappear. You get a blank where the missing image would be in the movie.
No doubt there's a similar kludge for IE, but I don't know where IE stores its javascript prefs. It may even be a menu item or a preference item, where you can deselect warning messages.
It's been a big relief to me to get rid of those nagging alerts.

Impossible
Wednesday morning and I can't do more than 2 movies before the defects start coming. Two or three at a time and refreshing does no good at all.
logged out/in 3 times without help.

Better
Now it's late afternoon. I was doing other things as I was trying to access some movies. From 1:00 to 3:30 I did only 20 or 30 movies, but got only about 10 problems.
Sorry; Just an observation.

I'm sure this is an old topic and no one is reading this thread anymore but I have to vent...
The reload option has not worked for the error messages , now nor 2 months ago.
At this point I start getting them within the first 5 movies. It makes no difference between 'current movie' or 'next movie'- error messages pop up on both.
I've turned off java error message in options to no avail. Am reaching the end. Feel like a smoker puffing away long after it stopped being fun.
Have stayed away for weeks at a time hoping this would be resolved only to have it be worst on returning.
Ok, thanks will try a little longer but am really almost done.
I think I hear crickets chirpping .....
