Great news nitram819!

First, what you found is from Tile 92, which is new data. There's no guarantee it's extraterrestrial, but it's definitely a candidate, the first of Phase 3, and we're all excited about it. We'll keep you posted.

Awesome news indeed! Three days after the start of phase 3 we already got a new candidate. There has to be more out there im sure!
Now I must think of a name, and I have no imagination whatsoever lol. Ill do my best to find a great name for it.

I AM the happiest duster in the world today. No doubt about that.

Hi Dan,

That's great news! On Mar 23, I posted a possible finding too (see below). Can you say something about it too?

Thanks Peter

Very nice, I think that you got something there in my opinion. And so it appears that my track might not be the first one to be found in phase 3 afterall. Congrats to you!

Possibly the start of a track around 380,0? It looks to me like it's focusing at a deeper point near the top, but I wish I could see the whole thing!

Yeah, it's not quite the real start of the search though, but to find the first one now in Phase 3 would be something! :)

BTW. are these 50 microns movies we're getting (mainly) still from Phase 2? There's a track in such one http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... =4065507V1 (Movie 4065507V1 3 1 Indeterminate)

@Quialiss, I would agree with you for http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... =7429481V1
Maybe someone will find the adjacent movie soon.

nitram819,

I'm saddened to tell you that on further investigation, 1157902V1 is not what we hoped it was. Something a few of us didn't know until we investigated this track, but it turns out that all new tiles will have a needle poke (or fiducial), which are put there to monitor the orientation of the tiles once they are extracted from the collector tray. So, it's no longer a candidate and I'm so sorry about the false alarm.

Note, there are going to be a number of these fiducials that will eventually show up in the newly scanned slides, and they are all going to look the same size, which is bigger than the size of real midnight tracks. Nevertheless, I believe we now need to not only put the word out to you all, but update the tutorial as well. We'll be working on that in April, with hopefully enough clarification that they will no longer be a problem in the future.

But you definitely have the right search image in mind, and I've got my fingers crossed you will eventually help us locate the real deal. Thanks for being part of the team!

Hi Dan, Thanks for the heads up. Its disapointing but I have to admit that I also found the 'track' sort of large when I compared it with others. So there is not really any real surprise there for me but I was still hoping for the best, oh well.

I kinda wish it was an april fools day joke but dont think so lol. I'm just gonna have to work harder and hopefully I will find something else, who knows.

Thanks for your understanding Martin - sadly, not an April Fool's joke (believe me, I'm not that mean! )

But thanks for sticking with it. I have a feeling you'll be one of our stars.

All the best!

http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... =8921078V1 (probably needle poke)
http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... =9315810V1 (probably needle poke)
http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... =9403056V1

Regarding the finding of the five tracks above I've to admit I didn't find them by using the Virtual Microscope but by searching via the Stardust Viewer - In the intention to catch more sight of the new 100 microns movies instead of the 50s. So I will most likely be not honored to be the first who found them by date (if it is so)
To be credited you have to find them via the VM.
But I really really like the high-contrast-blackish ones... :)

Could there be a vertical track in the aerogel? (called low-angle track, right?)

(V325/H170, pretty small) http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... =4242373V1

It shows a nice distinctive ring in the last frames of the movie. It could be of course only a particle/speck on/in the aerogel but who knows... in comparison its behavior is different to/stands out from the other features in the movie(s).
