Peter,

You need to get on the VM! Amazing eye you have, especially with 4242373V1. Definitely worth a click!

The others are interesting, and I would say "most likely" for the ones you pointed out as needle pokes. The others look a little different from the obvious pokes, yet amongst them, each looks exactly the same (so perhaps a different needle?). I really don't know.

But here's where we shouldn't worry, and everyone should click on anything that looks like a possible track, even if you think it might be a needle poke (as described here). We've decided we can use these as independent measures of sensitivity! :) And in case you're wondering if we might be missing real tracks in those needle poke slides, I've been told the lab techs look for tracks before they place the fiducials, so there shouldn't be anything "real" there. What I'm trying to say is, don't think about the fiducials (needle pokes) at all (because they're not worth thinking about), and simply click on whatever you think might be a track.

Cheers!

Hi Dan,

I'll be back to shoot..., er, pick them up 8)

Found yet another interesting one (possible low-angle track):
(V009/H108) http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... =1961737V1

So far I found a couple of those other possible pokes-like. They indeed point rather exact all in the same direction and all have about the same size, but their look varies.
For example:
http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... =6391460V1
http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... =3979190V1
http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... =3452994V1
http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... =2926543V1

Anyway all tracks are worth to click on... :)

That is what I thought, and thats why I clicked it. Anyway I am rather dissapointed that only I have clicked on it after eight other people have seen this movie- the track is not small and rather hard to miss...
Hey members of the Red Team I have something for you to review!

There appears to be two high angle tracks. One at 200- 125 and one at 500-115

Here is the adjacent movie above to 1961737V1: http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... =3993901V1
The focus of 3993901V1 goes fortunately deeper in, though, now the circle feature that appears in 1961737V1 closes again rather quick - don't know what I should think of it.

Hi greuti, we've exchanged PMs about 1961737V1 already, so you'll know that I think the feature you refer to is on the surface; I see no reason to change this opinion after viewing 3993901V1. Just what exactly is it that you feel makes this dot any different from the many others scattered all around?

But I'm particularly intrigued to know how you were able to match up these two movies. Do you have a photographic memory and were instantly aware of the relation between them, or is there a clue to the movie layout from their numbers (even a map) that I'm not aware of? Are you assembling some giant mosaic so as to spot such continuities?

Hi John,

Yes we've talked about it already and I can only say this feature has a different behavior than any others that make such circles which fade as they are more and more out of focus. Here the fading stops and the circle intensify again and comes back to another "dot" beneath the first one. Though it is also possible of course that we see here two "dots" exactly in the same vertical line.

:) Yes you could make a really really huge mosaic if you gather the coordinates which are listed (beside the corresponding Tile number) in each individual image link in the VM/Stardust Viewer.

I don't understand - I see no Tile numbers, nor coordinates of any particular movie within a tile, in either the VM or Viewer (and in either IE or Firefox). Greuti, can you please post a screen image indicating what you are referring to? Perhaps my system doesn't show this info for some reason, or I'm overlooking something really obvious.
Thanks, John

The individual images links are available via right click on one of the slides/images in the VM/Stardust Viewer, such as:

Code: Select all

http://s3.amazonaws.com/stardustathome.testbucket/real/fm_31615_19288.I092_Oct09/fm_31615_19288.I092_Oct09-015.jpg
Where the X-axis is 31615 and the Y-axis 19288 (in pixels I think) and the corresponding Tile I092.

This doesn't stay in focus very long and is very faint but seems to have the characteristics of a midnight track. Approx. 290,210

I do not see anything but several of those things.
