What will you name it?

hi all, am new here its my first day in this fantastic group, am syrian but live in jordan(in the middle east) and am realy interested in space, and i realy honor this selfish spirit you have, and about the names,i think the first particle should be named after one of the people who died while they were doing there job to the humanity, no matter what mission but we should honor one of them.
nice to be one of you guys, and am honored to be your spacemate

I like this idea but I wonder who it should be? Every country has its own hero. For example, the United States might include someone such as Martin Luther King Jr (the African-American statesman). He showed us the first stone on the path to racial harmony. We have a ways to go yet, but this country really learned something from his honorable example.

There are so many worldwide heroes! I'm sure every country has an honored statesman, or religious leader, or somesuch, who made the world a little bit better by action or example.

How could we possibly choose, unless it be for the particle finder to choose a hero from his or her own country?

If it isn't entirely clear from my response, I do like your idea very much.

Oh! I got it! I'll name it Bernstein, for Leonard Bernstein, the conductor/composer!

IMO, we should not belittle the importance of the Stardust@home project by being afraid of naming dust particles from space after renown individuals.

Therefore I would like to name the particle I find (if any) "Dubyah"
after the current leader of the US.

Oh the fun to be had, everyone had thier own beliefs and desires and motives for calling a partical after something special.

I like the following.

Moya ~ From Farscape
Gensis ~ The first
Rigel the 17th ~ Farscape again (Rigel the 16th)
Krakan ~ The songs of a distant earth, A C Clarke
Tekapo ~ Wonderful lake and home to Mt John Observatory
Little bang ~ Cosmic begining
Itsy bitsy, Teeny weeny, Yellow polka dot.... ~ Song
Sweet Rose. ~ My Wife
Ziggy Stardust ~ Rocker and our cat

I could go on, but that would take the fun out of everyone elses turn.

after i saw all the care about the names, i have another idea, why we dont call the first particle "hope"??? its a name containing a deep meaning, and actually hope is the only thing that helped the world heros, no matter from where they are, or what was the field they worked on!!! and the hope is the most important thing that made this mission, stardust, succeed, and also the hope is what we need to discover new things we didn't know about this great universe, so what do you think???

LOL! Good old Q...

I've been thinking, and I am shying away from naming it after a great person because there are already thousands of things named after great people. If anything, I'd name it after some sort of physicist or some character (Bob Wiley? Lenny Briscoe? District Attourney Jack McCoy?), but I am still for something that is overlyingly absurd until you think of it.
Kind of like Richard Mullers suggestion of naming "Nemesis" as George, but Nemesis was chosen instead. George sounds absurd, but on his podcast (Physics for Future Presidents--he's a physics professor at Berkeley, by the way) he gave a good reason for naming it that: after a saint who killed dragons, or something.
