Re: movie 1522634V1

Yes it does have a track, but when I tested it myself, I got neither a correct nor an incorrect score. I'll look into this and get back to you.

Hi, i'm new to all this so sorry if i ask a stupid question
I passed the tested and have done roughly 150 slides today
i remember finding something on at least 4, then clicking them & "ok"

but my recent actions only shows me clicking on 1

is this normal or is it not registering me finding particles?

Hi Bob192,

When you click on a track in a real movie and then click "OK" the movie will show up in your events.

When you click on a Calibration Movie and you have clicked correctly your score will go up but the movie will not go into your events.

When you click incorrectly on a calibration movie your score will go down.

Since it took me a while to get "activated" I have something of a list lol.

Not sure of the date: http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... 7&theY=114

Oct 9: http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... 8&theY=310

Oct 12: http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... 1&theY=251
Looked as though there could have been 2 tracks.

Oct 12: http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... 3&theY=346

Oct 12th: http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... 6&theY=128

I know I got several of these correct.

Hi JBogle. I'm surprised no one else has responded to your post by now, but here’s my take. All your examples are PMs (‘power’ or test movies), so which of them did you get wrong? I guess it may be the last, 4459972V1, which is indeed tricky, but a careful and if necessary magnified inspection shows a tiny ‘Heidelberger’ against the left border just at the top of the red bar – search the forum if unaware of these. The co-focussing tiny black spot a little up to the right has been explained away as the erroneous inclusion of a surface-debris speck during the PM-pasting process; believe that if you will, but in any case it can be a give-away for at least some of these.

And the “two-track” 8597430V1 is in fact due to an initial single particle impact, where it seems it then broke into at least three terminal fragments, which for some reason (to my knowledge still unexplained) then took a slightly offset parallel path through the aerogel. Sorry, can’t find links to old forum discussions about this one. Whatever, click on the deepest fragment at the end.

Hope that helps.

Thanks John for trying to help JBogle out.

JBogle - are you still experiencing problems with Power Movies (PMs)? If so, please let me know your Username in the Virtual Microscope (VM) and I'll try and see if we can figure out what the problem is from behind the scenes.

Thanks,

My username in the VM is JBogle as well. As for which ones I think I got right but was scored wrong, all the ones I listed.

Hi JBogle,

Lately, in many cases where people believe they are absolutely clicking in the correct location and are still getting PMs scored wrong, it's because they are using Chrome or some other browser AND are also zooming in to better see the tracks. If this is the case, try using Firefox or Safari instead, and no matter what, try not to zoom in, or at least reset your view magnification first before clicking. Let me know!

I'm using Firefox and occasionally I still get this kind of score error with and without zooming the movies, but only happen with certain kind of movies likes the ones with the big bulb head tracks.

I will try to corroborated this again if I can across with any of this kind of movie and let you know ^^

Hi JBogle,

For the first movie you list, 762229V1, the database shows you clicked on the wrong end, at 197/359. The true coordinates are admittedly a little off at 487/114, but close enough to the "bulbous head" of this track, which is the deepest part. For tracks like these, that's usually the case (i.e., click on the bulbous head). Do you recall clicking the other end? If so, that's probably the issue with some of the other tracks you listed too.

Check & record zoom level and "about to click" coordinates (which you should see at the bottom of your browser where URLs appear when you mouse over links) before clicking next time and let me know what happens.

Thanks,

Dan

Thanks Dan,

Here's another one: http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... 8&theY=163

I clicked it for sure but after reading some other posts I think I didn't click it "deep enough." Is there any way to augment the system to allow for more shallow clicks? A click is still a click, right?

And another

Don't mean to be a bother but some of these are just like "really?!"

JBogle, This is another one of those confusing large, long tracks. Confusing because we cannot know for sure which end to click on. Most tracks like this give points when you click on the "head." But, with some of these very same tracks, you must click on the tail as it disappears from the movie to get points. With this particular one, you should have clicked on the bottom. I Since we can't be sure where to click on these large tracks, I just ignore them and go to the next movie.

Yep, it's a much longer track. But I'm sure you'll never miss it again! Always try and go as deep as the VM allows before making your decision on where to click.

As I told Evelyn, if we could we would. But that level of programming is beyond our capabilities at the moment. Sorry about that.

Thanks for pointing this one out Evelyn and for your advice. Mainly, when you see a track this long (and for that matter, wide), it's worth greater scrutiny to determine which is truly the deepest end. Often, that turns out to be where it leaves the frame of the slide.
