strange!!

Post by marcia »

A very strange thing just happened during dusting. I clicked on a 'track' in movie 7136723V1 (coord: 204, 167), and when I looked to my scores under the next movie, I saw that I did get a point for a correct CM, BUT ALSO was scored 1 point wrong???? The CM before was at least 10 movies before that.
The time was about 6.20 pm MET (= GMT + 1 hr)

Laserphil, I agree with all your coordinates in those three +ve CMs, and sympathise.

It's a shame we appear to be revisiting some of the early errors of phase I. Fortunately, they did get rapidly corrected as a result of reports such as yours. Unfortunately though, Bryan Mendez, who seems to be the only one who now has time to deal with this sort of thing, has said it will take him some time to catch up with such problems.

But I agree it's a real annoyance that, second time round, such mistakes have ever been allowed to reoccur (see also here).

The Vagaries of the Calibration Movies

Post by denisw »

I, too, have just hit a calibration movie where what clearly appears to be a track gives me an "incorrect" score. (See mov. 8189200V1). Together with the fact that one cannot choose multiple tracks in one movie, this is something of a problem for me.

If the purpose of the whole exercise is to find tracks, de-motivating users by saying, in effect, "Well that might look like a track, but it's not... and you've made a mistake... so there!" would not seem like a good way to increase participation.

This is quite different from one of us "missing" a track in a calibration movie and getting an "incorrect" score. That I take without comment.

Perhaps no one has thought this through?

Sincere thanks

Thanks jsmaje. I thought that I had everything covered and was amazed to see my score go down. As it turns out one of these CM's is already marked for termination - there is a list of 16 already- but when that will happen is anyones guess.

Good to meet you and happy dusting.
By the way I didn't stay angry for long and worked my way back to 69th tonight without missing any +ve CMs.

Incorrect scores

Post by laserphil »

Check out the following link as you may have found some more dud calibration movies. If you think that you were scored incorrectly then you should post in the FAQ section.

CM's in above posts

Post by laserphil »

I've just checked both these CM's.

6610187V1 has a single track at 43,200
8189200V1 has a single small track at 58,297

Thanks for your calming and considered reply, laserphil. I guess I was a bit miffed at losing my 100% :o)

I'll follow up the link you suggest.

Can I add another to the list of corrupted movies?

8189200V1 shows what looks like a track, but clicking on the track gives an error. At least it did to me.

CM 6201084V1

Post by Dee »

I missed the track on this one. I clicked track on the dark area near the top of the slide.
I assume the track is the dark area under the surface near the bottom. They seem pretty much the same to me.

Can someone confirm for me please.

Hi Dee,

Checked your CM and found the track at co-ordinates 109,280. When you focus through the movies look for something that stays in focus longer than any other particle or that exhibits different focus characteristics than others. The track on this movie starts out as a dot but at the bottom of the focus becomes a fan shape with a small black spot at the apex of the fan!

I hope this helps
Best of luck dusting

Crumplestiltskin --
On movie 6361715V1 believe the coords are 63,88 as I was given a score of correct on this. Very, very subtle.

Messages in Bottles ?

Post by Crumplestiltskin »

While I appreciate opinions or comments from other dusters who happened to read them, 5 of my recent posts were entered in

the appropriate forum (FAQs/"I answered a calibration movie right but was scored wrong") but there have been no replies, to

mine or others', from Bryan Mendez or anyone else on the team thus far since his trip to Chicago.
Has 'the list' been updated ? Bad CM's removed from the server ?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* I do realize #5 is too recent for me to expect a reply yet, and that the Stardust Team is no doubt very busy.

If I never get responses then perhaps my posts [re bad/otherwise corrupted (problem) CM's and scoring weirdness] might help

other dusters (some of the 11% registered in the forum) avoid having similar problems. Hopefully this post won't just be

another 'message in a bottle' as these listed here have begun to seem.

Please. Yours truly, Crumplestiltskin

More sad scoring CM

Post by laserphil »

Here is another bad CM
http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... rds=?-1,-1

Clicked on co-ordinates 300,339 and had a point deducted. Points mean little to me but I was slowly gaining back my sensitivity % and now it has dropped again.

More sad scoring CM #2

I failed to indicate the time of clicking on the above CM. It was approximately 0540UT.
