lost specificity

Post by minkiemink »

Hi,
I noticed that recently, the CM tracks have gotten smaller and fainter. Not a problem in finding them, but a problem has arisen for me in clicking on them. I work on a 12" laptop. Small screen. Apparently, this has made me hopelessly innacurate in clicking on the teeny tiny CM tracks, no matter how careful I try to be about centering. My specificity went from 99.60 to 99.52 almost overnight. Any remedy for this...... Other than one of your moms buying me a bigger screen... ?

Thanks,

-Minkie

Do you have the image zoomed in any way? That will effect if you click in the correct area.

One thing you might try if you do not have it zoomed, since working on small monitor, try using a magnifying page. It is something that people place on top of books, magazines, etc., in order to zoom the print. It might just work for you to be able to click on the right spot.

I know I've seen them in the back of magazines, but if you call, maybe a bookstore or something might have them.

Good luck!

From the Help Definitions Page:
http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/definitions.php

Specificity
Specificity measures how well you are able to correctly identify a calibration movie that contains no track. Specificity is the total number of times you have correctly found no track in calibration movies divided by the total number of calibration movies you have searched in which there were actually no tracks.

At the VM it looks like this:

Your Rank:

Specificity: (identify no tracks)
Sensitivity: (identify tracks)

Minkie, if you are sure that your top number (Specificity) is going down, that is not trouble with missing a track on a CM. That would be trouble with finding a track on a blank CM and clicking on it, or failing to click no track on a blank CM. Are you sure you are talking about your top number, Specificity?

I know that for a long time I had the two things swiched in my mind as to what they were.

Thanks fjgiie. I probably do have it switched....but then it is even weirder, as I rarely click on a track unless I am absolutely sure it is there. The specificity literally went down over night. Something odd is going on with Firefox right now too...as it won't load at all. Its the only site that I am having trouble with on Firefox. I am now searching on Safari again, which works fine. This has all been going on for the past three days. The specificity thing for about 5 days. Something is up. Wish it would stop. Or wish I could figure it out to make it stop...lol.

In Firefox clear the cache and clear the cookies. Or you can just clear the Stardust cookies. You can view then in Firefox and delete selectively. It's a start.

Thanks Pete....I started to do just that, but I went on to check the site just now to see if it was still not loading before I started. Lo and behold.......everything is juuuust peachy again. Movies loading completely, usual delays, nothing odd. Either a bug resolved in my computer, a bug resolved on the site, or someone with an odd sense of humor at my server. If it happens again, (probably as soon as I send this...lol), I will do the cache cookie thing. Thanks for the input everyone.
