Hey, guys, there seems to me to be an obvious track in this movie. http://aerogel.ssl.berkeley.edu/powermi ... 7&theY=281. Yet I clicked on it and got it wrong. I can't see a track in indicated spot. "Add files" feature is inoperable at this time, or I would have uploaded the movie. Evelyn, SmithES, ERSTRS

Yes, Evelyn, there is a diagonal HAT, but out of focus, at about 65/275 - at least, that's where I would click on it.

Comes into view, though very out of focus, only as you scroll down the blue bars with the VM, correct Mike? Not to be confused I think with the track-like looking thing above it, at about 50/200 - agreed? Dan

caprarom wrote:No, Dan. I do not agree. This is the one where the actual track diverges from the main feature. There are four views of it - one in each of the four corners. Because people tended to click in the corners instead of the correct location, they were rated as 75 or 80-pointers. This one I click around 75/375 which has always worked before. I've seen the corresponding upper left corner version of this PM, 3475270V1, at least four times since (it is still an 80-pointer), and clicked in the usual spot with no problem. Maybe I just got sloppy and clicked shy of 75 - I'll try to remember to shade it over to the right a bit next time. Mike PS Came across the upper right corner version, 2121087V1 - it is also still an 80-pointer.
You know our database far better than me Mike! Let me look into the points for this one at least. In the meantime, please do let me know what happens when you encounter it again. Thanks! Dan

Another off screen track, I am not sure whether it has been reported before.

That's a nasty one, Lily, I ran into it once but clicked the wrong end as I recall.

Dan, I haven't run into 4606912 yet; I thought I did today, but it was it's sister in the same quadrant, 1463257. I clicked at 80/374 and got it correct, but it is also only a 15-pointer. So, it seems those in the lower left quadrant are only rated a fifth as high as those in the other three quadrants. I'll let you know if/when I run across 4606912 again.

Mike

PS. the lower right corner version, 9913515V1, is just a 70-pointer.
PPS. ran into yet another lower left corner version, 3348906V1; a click at 77/373 worked just fine. There are more of these than I'd realized.

That is a tough one, Lily. If you go to the bottom of the focal range, you can just make out the diagonal HAT at the right edge. Not sure the "correct" place to click on it, but I expect it's at 500/300.
(Oh, wait, it says so in the URL - duh! 500/301, I was close.)

Fascinating Mike. The points are supposed to be based on how often people correctly found the tracks in a previous Phase (IV I think). The more often the track was found, the lower point value it received. It was all based on a plotting program Dr. Westphal ran awhile back, which looked good to me on first glance. Perhaps we should run it again, just to see if much has changed. I'll try and bring this up with the team again soon. Thanks! Dan

Well, I finally ran across 4606912 again today, Dan. No problems. I clicked in the usual place and it registered correctly. No idea what I did wrong previously, but it must have been a mistake on my part. Aside from the curious discrepancy in ratings among the quadrants, all seems fine and likely does not merit your attention.

Tough one, Lily. I can just make it out at the bottom edge, slightly left of the official coordinates at about 440/375, but you have to be at the very top of the focal range. Go deeper and you lose it. Mike
