News about Stardust@Home

I posted this in another thread but it has been suggested that we need a
thread where anyone can post updated info about Stardust@Home.

In addition, the Stardust@home crew has been hard at work producing "calibration movies." These look for all intents and purposes like real Stardust@home movies, containing the telltale signs of an interstellar dust particle track. In fact, the calibration movies are artificially produced by combining real Stardust@home movies with track images taken from aerogel bombarded with particles at an accelerator in Germany. These calibration movies will be interspersed among the "real" Stardust@home movies that will be sent out to users around the world. By tracking whether any individual user detects or ignores the tracks in the planted movies, the Stardust@home team will get a pretty good idea of the user's level of skill or - just as likely - whether he or she is paying attention! Only results from users with a proven track record will be considered in pinpointing the location of real interstellar dust particles.

The very last sentence in this paragraph is interesting. I must wonder if this is an indication that a certain percentage of accuracy must be maintained (via calibration movies) for your submission to count? I'm trying to decide what I would think about this as a possibility. Interesting, certainly. Bad for those folks who click-click-click through movies -- they would lose the credit for a real particle! Good for those who are careful and pay attention.

Call me annoyingly pedantic , but this thread was in fact for "News about Stardust@Home", i.e. this interstellar dust volunteer project, and not the wider issue of "Stardust In the News", such as the latest cometary dust results referred to by fflo.
It's just that it can become very difficult following a particular subject when contributions are posted under a variety of topics in different forums.
