It occurred to me that not only will tracks not necessarily be oriented straight down from the surface, but any deviation will be of crucial importance in characterizing a particle. This will be immediately known to the person who first sees it, as for instance going down and to the right 0.1 mm per frame with increasing distance from the surface.
Galactic particles will be coming from a specific direction, and knowing the orientation of the spacecraft in space, the focus movie relative to the spacecraft, and mm on the screen per micron in the gel would be nice, though not necessary for our purposes. Together we might come up with more than one "family" of track analogous to named meteor showers.
