Yeah, next Wednesday morning around 9AM. July 5th...I think they have 12 and are preparing to open the gate.
I hope I'm wrong though.
I think they have changed their minds and want to have more than 12 scanned.BIGAL wrote:I think they have 12 and are preparing to open the gate.

Before we launch the VM we would like to have a few tiles scanned and processed so we can be confident we're past the false starts.

then I wrote: I can't say if either of you is right or wrong, but if 12 tiles is equal to 66,000 movies and an average 100 users scan only 1 movie per minute, the well will run dry in about 11 hours, right?.
No dessert for you- ONE MONTH!
How long does it take to view 228,000 movies?
4,000 movies / tile... times 12 tiles = 48,000 movies
plus 20% calibration movies = 57,600 movies
times 4 views of each movie = 230,400 movies to view by 50,000 team members
4 or 5 movies per person
less than a minute or two per team member.
Here is the problem. This project will run into next year, 2007, because the edges of the tiles will have to be scanned after the 4000 movies from the flat middle of the tiles are done. The edge pictures will be more of a problem because of the more critical focus demands.
Just thminkin' out loud...

Yes, it seems great minds think alike... and it's not any more difficult to change behaviors as we age; we're just less receptive to the idea- don't sell yourself short! For example; I never understood why my parents couldn't enjoy my music (even though I could enjoy theirs). But I am positive there is something wrong with the vehicles some kids drive today that makes it seem like my transmission is falling out, and my kids keep telling me it has something to do with the music they are listening to! Go figure.

The schematic has been updated as of July 14 with a new red category:

And, check out the new explanation of the red category at:

Looking at Anna's explanation i am afraid a view of the red tiles will need re-scanning. So hopefully the scanning process itself will also improve based on the results sofar, otherwise i think the production of completed movies will slow down from the expected 4 tiles a week to quite a lot less.
So once again let's keep our fingers crossed.

The detail in the update helps me understand the difficulty of the processing- the aerogel material is experimental material and focusing on the surface is view-ably problematic. We can see in your link the provided sectors that just don't carry accurate information for our work.
Better to be patient so we can have a substantial opportunity to find the tracks with just one pass.
Mentioned also was the re-adjustment of the physical surface of the aerogel towards the upper few movies frames so as to give better depth and coverage of the actual material, avoiding wasted 'empty' frames above the top of the specimen. Most microscope lenses can produce false image 'halos' and well defined circles where they do not actually exist when not focused accurately. That would be a trap for all. Better to avoid troubles before they are presented to us.
More detail in the 'movies' makes our work easier.
