Lateral track movie?

Post by bill »

This one is really what I'd imagine a lateral track to look like.

http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... =6355541V1

The track appears in the top, center. The track moves from lower-left to upper-right and descends from left to right. It breaks into 3 small bits at the end.

Even if it isn't a track, it's cool to watch.
Cheers,
Bill

Very good possibility! What's the agreement on it? Were you first?

There were 43 agreements out of 180 views.

It still amazes me how low agreement rates are...

OK, i can see that. There is indeed something here what needs another look, so clicking on this one as a potential track makes sence.

My understanding from the project is that movies which are generally marked bad focus wil be scanned again. However since the microscope is currently running a program to automatically scan an entire cell this will be done later in the process. So marking bad focus does not mean losing that bit of aerogel from the project.

I try not to use bad focus too much either, otherwise, I would be using it all of the time. I guess I might click too much, but also I would rather do that than possibly miss something because it does not present perfectly. As Pete said, its what we have to work with. Anyway...If we all did things, saw things, (and clicked on things) in the exact same way, my guess is that we would find very little stardust....

Re: xxxxxy

Sorry it's just something on the surface.

Here check this one out. It's in the glass, My first one of the day. Another needs a second look cause I can't tell with the tools we have been given.

OK, there's something going on just east of Moe in the last few frames here:
http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... =7688037V1

It's starting to come into focus but it doesn't go deep enough to show if it keeps the donut shape or resolves to a spec. The fact that something wasn't clearly there right at the surface makes me think it may just be an inclusion but a few more frames of focus would have cinched it for me either way.

There's only 7 agreements out of 168 views as of this post so I sure hope the rest were for bad focus...

I would not have clicked bad focus on this one; the surface appears high enough in the focus bars. It is a subtle spot (some people might miss it if they are going fast), but I would click on it if I got this movie.

This is clearly a track, similar to the low angle ones but much higher angle. Only 2/53 agreements but definitely a track!

Bill,

Certainly looks like a lateral low angle track to me. I've seen a few similar ones posted are below are three candidates for such tracks I've found myself:

http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... d=433711V1 Top left 50/204 Passed cut 1, comment "another IDP"
http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... d=862370V1 Lower left quadrant 61/183
http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... =7559378V1 Two particles far right 6/98

I'd certainly have marked that one too. But what about this one?: http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... d=377927V1

I'm sure most people will have judged it bad focus, since the surface is never clearly identifiable (the whole focal range looks too deep). But to my eyes there could be at least seven specks coming into focus at various depths, the last two slightly above (& to left and right) of Moe this time. They're admittedly very small and slightly vague, but I'm sure they'd be clearer at higher resolution.

And there's only one agreement (me with myself) out of 95 viewings so far! Although they are almost certainly just inclusions, I'll nevertheless continue to mark this sort of thing until there is official word not to.
What do others think?
