Total viewings 156 --- Number of Agreements 99 !!!!

A good candidate?
Goldrake,
I can see why this is so popular, but I don't think this is one. My interpretation is that we are looking at a generally flat movie with three troughs on the right hand side. The dust in focus on the top right at the top of the focal range is sitting at the edge of the troughs at the same level as the rest of the surface. The single dark 'particle' that come in to focus in the top right at the bottom of the focal range is sitting at the bottom of one of the troughs but has not penetrated the surface of the aerogel.

All the best
Gavin
I agree with your opinion pointyhat and Tricky, but the movie is not so clear so we have to waiting an official answer that I hope is coming enough quickly.

Movie 699614V1

Post by de_revolutionibus »

I think I've found one, but a hundred and fifty some seem to disagree. Next time you see it, keep this in mind, and let me know if I'm crazy here...

There's a dust particle on the camera's lens, near the bottom. It's kind of fuzzy. Once the movie loads completely, focus down and keep your eye on the dust particle. When you almost completely focus in, you'll see something seem to start to focus right beside (on the left) of the camera dust. It's kind of small, and pretty fuzzy still. Perhaps if the camera could focus down a little more, it would become more noticeable. When you focus up and down quickly, it becomes a lot more apparent.

Take a look. Does anyone agree with me?

I clicked on one like that, but it had a different movie number. I'm wondering if somehow they are a result of a surface shadow interacting with the camera dust.

This movie goes below surface on about 4th or 5th focus bar from above. Then there is nothing to see for over 20 focus steps. This means no disturbance of the aerogel there. Then this very faint spot appears in the last 2 or 3 steps. At best it is an inclusion.

Yes, I can see it (it "hides" behind Curley), though I guess it´s just one more of those tiny inclusions.
edit: oops, wolter was faster.

I see only your two posts in this thread, I see also posts from other people in this thread. The forum software can not determine who answers who. It only sees that other posts are posted in the thread you post in and so alerts you of these "answers"

Makes sense..??

Anyway the link for viewing movies is:
"http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... =6544999V1"
Where "6544999V1" is the Movie-ID

Tiggertim: I think I see what you're referring to (at about 9 o'clock on the image?) I'm not sure I'd have ticked it as a track, so I'm glad I'm not the only one looking! My first impression was of a crack, not a track, but that might just be my experience with artifacts that go white instead of black.

Movie 699614V1 is interesting. There is also a faint spot in the lower left corner. As you focus down slowly you see a brief bright spot before it darkens. Probably an inclusion. Still it is tantalizing to see something so far below the surface. What might we be missing in other movies?

Thats my most hopeful looking track, not alot of people percentage wise have clicked on it, 25 out of 107. But it just looks almost perfect to me, a circle comes into focus obviosuly below the surface to the left of the "blob" thing. Cant wait for an official review of that one because i think i was the first to click that one, i forgot now, aww well.

I think I clicked it myself!!! Have to check my events!!!
