Is this possibly a Track? If it is a Track, it has a long tail behind it. Clicked on it anyway. Evelyn

Hi Evelyn,

I don't think what's in the upper left corner is a track, but at 264/234, I see something that looks possible. Is that what you meant?

Top right corner, going NNE like other linear surface features, but seems to go slightly deeper; ~495,16 (1/1).
I just promoted it for review - great looking track! (at least in my opinion)

Hi John,

I've tried to answer as best I can:

jsmaje wrote:Dan, you suggest we might get some 50 micron CMs; " - that ought to wake a few people up". Good idea, but would they be new CMs or taken from phase 2, which (I think) were all 'carrot-tracks' rather than HATs, and which may risk sowing further confusion?

New. But I've noticed there are "no track" CMs in 50u slides already being used in Phase 3.

So: "Dr. Westphal has removed his "?" from his rating of 6263991V1. It's definitely a needle mark."
But you still don't explain (as was asked) how he knows; for example, by comparison with a fiducial database, and/or by examining overlapping frames from the scanned movie database?

Here's how he put it to me today: "By comparison with the coordinates of the fiducials that we put in. As I go through the alpha list, it is not automatically coordinated, so I put sometimes "probable". But we need to confirm it by looking at the coordinates, which takes a little time."

If the latter, can we be shown the overlapping movie below? By the way, I notice that Orion also extends below the bottom of the frame. Can we be shown the overlapping movie there too (yes, I know it came from the pre-fiducial era)?

I'm trying to get these for you.

I presume it was just an ironic coincidence that the decision to insert (?all) fiducials in a midnight orientation was made before it became apparent that midnight tracks could in fact be of particular interest. Might they be inserted at some other angle in future? John

He likes them the way they are: "There is no danger of confusion. In fact, having the fiducials at the same angle as the midnight tracks makes them a nice cross check on detection efficiency."
I think the bottom line is don't think too hard on these fiducials/needle pokes and just click!

8294030V1 (1/1). Jammed into bottom left corner, so not sure what may be to the left and below. I suspect a needle-poke.
John
PS: do the team want us to continue posting all/any such new tracks/pokes here, or (given Brian Mendez's comments that open this forum topic) is being on our Events List sufficient to attract attention?

Hi guys,

I don't want to rush things, but I was just wondering if there are any news about Movie 7168933V1 (currently #1 in alpha list).

Martin, the Berkeley Team has labeled this as a "fiducial" mark. Regards,

Thanks Mike, I just wanted to confirm that it was in fact a fiducial.

Yep, that's a really juicy one, Martin, and it wasn't yet on the Alpha listing. I added it to the list. Quite a collection of fiducials we're accumulating. Mike

Well I've been posting a lot in this thread lately but I keep finding things that I think will interest the Red team.

In this one you should see a high angle track ending at position 150(x),125(y). Its an older 50 micron movie, has 19 views with 3 agreements (not in alpha list either).

I think posting has drawn our attention to some interesting tracks, so I see no harm in continuing to do so John.
