I think most of people who had log in pre-register are waiting the start email.
In my country, most people can read English so well (me too... ),so only few know this project. We are trying to translate the web of Stardust@home to let more people join in.
If your can read Chinese see here and welcome!
I'm thrilled to see the website in Chinese, until now I can only recommend this place to those who I think is trained well enough on English and who will have some interest in the project. As a fact, though several ,they are not so many.
I really think it helpful to have the stardust@home site in other languages, and if the ladies and gentlemen in charge can link your site on the main page, that will be wonderful.

I would guess that UA means USA, but it also could mean UAE (United Arab Emirates). Or it could mean the University of Arizona, or a number of other colleges with the initials UA.

It would be cool to see a world map of where everyone in located.

or United Artists if they were logged in at a theatre...

I agree about a map, there is a good Geographical Distribution Map of Visitors at http://www.heavens-above.com that would do nicely. I think the bulk of it is in JavaScript and would be easy to assimilate- but I propose that it be done by a user and not anyone at StarDust; they have plenty to do. I'm not volunteering, but I will look into it. I could probably host it and we could provide a link from here. Anyone familiar with ASP and CGI?

hi from (way too) sunny las vegas!

Post by silentpyjamas »

hi, i'm coco from las vegas and i have been waiting months to indulge myself and my niece in our love for astronomy with this. i hadn't checked on the project in a while and tonight i was so excited between the tutorial and some links a friend gave me for various astronomy softwares that i hyperventilated and blacked out. i whanged my head right on the edge of my laptop screen. clearly, i am a nerdy nerd.

i write sci fi so anything exciting or scandalous is going right into a story.

it's nice to meet you all and beware my lolling head!

and about the map, there's always frappr.

that could be fun!

Hi coco,

Sorry about your head... maybe some latex laptop laceration limiters are in order? Frapper looks cool, but something that doesn't require an additional login/sign-up would be prefereable, I'll keep that in mind, though- Thanks!

Hmm, we're really getting there! Although I'm a little disappointed with the Swiss. Where's the ingenuity they show in RGB Mars? Time to call up my emergency Swiss contacts.
And God said: E = +mv^2 - Ze^2/r ...and there *WAS* light!

Does the in-falling of stardust pattern provide the national and regional groups relatively equally with a dose of the invisible material, or is there a strong preference due to the solar wind and magnetic field forces? Perhaps another topic for another line, but here we are discussing the variety of persons able to get online and ambitious to participate worldwide. I can see the obvious unfortunate imbalance of the distribution of the Internet access, and economic imbalances, but as usual we find all persons can take the wheel in science and lead us to discovery when they can participate. Hopefully the distribution will be more geographically represented as the project wears on.

Not quite! We have Garrick, Dave, and you, and that makes three. I think Scotland is listed here as part of the UK.

GelDelve, and others passing,
As we acknowledge the vast numbers of people who might want to 'watch', and, the other more integrated but smaller group which will 'participate', is there a means as yet for the images of suspected 'hits' to be shown in a public gallery for the public to study the first sightings?
The Mars MER program provided a public gallery of very entertaining and educational vistas, 3D, and panorama's, for public consumption. That served the world with a taste of the immediate views while they were 'pre-news' items. Will the same type of gallery be provided in this for the many who find it difficult to view and judge the 'movies'?
I am sure the audience might be slightly smaller than the MER rover gallery, , but the demand from the world-wide supply of cell phones and public computers could be greater than the active participants, especially in the countries with limited Internet private machines.
Again, a little from the main theme, but serving the interests of those who wish to be included, and may not be active from parts of the world with limitations.

Really, just a vast number of neighborhoods.
