Thanks GelDelve,

Some that post here are indicating they have knowledge of how many "Bad Focus" movies they've flagged, that's the point of my query. That information is not to be found anywhere by me.

You are correct, that information is not directly obtainable by any means known to me either on the website (I have kept records on a spreadsheet of my own activities). The fact is that approximately 25% (1/4th) of the movies are calibrations, and that number is known.

If you take your score and add double your missed calibrations (because missed calibrations subtract from you score), then that will equal all of the calibration movies you have evaluated. Then if you multiply that number by 4, that will appoximate all of the movies (real, calibration, and bad focus) you have ever looked at combined. Subtract from that all the calibrations you have evaluated and that should approximate all the real movies you have looked at. If you take that number and subtract your real movies viewed, the difference can only be bad focus movies.

I hate word problems. LOL so let me get this right I hope....

Score + (2*wrong) = TotEval

(TotEval*4) - (CalCorrect+CalIncorrect) = TotRealApprox

TotRealApprox - RealViewed = BadFocus

Let me see if I can summerise this...? not sure here but I'll try using my stats as follows....

Calibration Movies Answered Correctly 21497
Calibration Movies Answered Incorrectly 97
Your Overall Score: 21400
Total Real Movies Viewed: 52832
Your Rank: 54 out of 22756
Specificity: 99.46%
Sensitivity: 99.64%

21400 + (2*97) = 21594

(21594*4) - (21497-97) = 86376 - 21400 = 74976

74976 - 52832 = 22144

22144 = Bad Movies Viewed?

WOW

Let me know if my math is corrtect. or even close

Hi WW,

Please note that your calculation of 86376 - 21400 = 74976 is incorrect since that answer would be 64976, not 74976, resulting in an answer by your formula of bad focus movies being 12144, not 22144. In any case, I know that I must have confused you so I'm using your stats and my formulas here to hopefully make it easier to understand.

Here's the math for your score:

Calibration Score + 2*Calibrations Incorrect = 21400 + 2*97 = 21594 (the total calibration movies you've looked at, unless you've marked some of them also as bad focus, but see my comment later on about how this is likely not significant)

Total calibrations*4 - total calibrations = 21594*4 - 21594 = 64782 (the total number of all real movies you've looked at approximated) Note that you could simply multiply by 3 or 21594*3 = 64782, but I just thought it was more logical to state it the way I did. 1/4 of everything is calibration and 3/4 of everything is real (approximately, but the greater the number of calibrations you have, the more accurate the formula becomes).

Total of all real movies you've looked at - Real Viewed (as shown in the VM and My Events, meaning that if you thought some were bad focus, you looked at it but could not actually view [make a decision on] it) = 64782 - 52832 = 11950 (estimated bad focus movies).

That would mean that you are judging about 18.5% (11950/64782) of non-calibration movies as bad focus.

Looking at some of the stats actually posted by members in the forum, I see that the bad focus percentages range from somewhere around 4% to 27%, but that is a very small sample of all the members of the forum and an even smaller sample of all the dusters. My current bad focus percentage is 16% based on the formula. However, I started to keep a spreadsheet on each and every movie I've looked at after I reached a score of 2606 with 6599 movies recorded, and based on actual data from that point to this, my percentage is 15.5%.

I didn't try to find it again, but somewhere in the forum or on the VM site, the Berkeley staff stated that 25% of movies we reviewed would be calibration movies. Of course, there is also the possibility that at least some of the calibration movies were clicked as bad focus, which would tend to underestimate the formula for all movies viewed. However, since the staff uses focused movies for calibrations without a track (and places a definite track in those that should be clicked on as having a track, even if otherwise it might be judged as bad focus), the number of them that might have been clicked as bad focus should be relatively small and negligible. Further, if one is very liberal in clicking bad focus, including calibrations, that would only make their score slightly skewed and not the rest of ours.

I usually love word problems, go figure. It could be that my words were not well enough defined when I originally posted the formula here, but I hope that I have explained it better by example and that it makes some kind of logical sense to you now.
