Official Stardust@Home Issue & Status List UPDATED 10:57

Post by annaz »

Hi everyone,

Please check Tech FAQ and this list for problems that might occur.
Please also post here for any problems.

Here are some issues that are known to us:

Issue #1 - Test & Register, getting error message about wrong URL

Problem: Get this error message:
Testing/Registration Error: Your testing/registration URL is incorrect.
This may mean that you pasted in a URL obtained in a previous test.
Each testing URL will only work for the duration of a single test.
Please return to the start of the test.

Occurs when:
- After clicking on a movie.
- After clicking “Continue to the next movie”
- After clicking submit to register

Information:
This can occur when you have multiple tabs open in Firefox or IE.

For Firefox – do not open in new tabs when in Test & Register or VM.
For IE – do not open ‘New -> Window’

If you have only one window and it still does not work, try clearing your cache and/or cookies. If this is still does not solve the problem, post a reply to this thread.

Issue #2: Same movies do not match up

Updated Aug. 3, 06 – 10:57pm Some calibration movies and real movies have the same IDs. My Events will only show the real movies. This should explain the reason behind the reports for VM.

Problem:
Click on a movie with ‘track’ or ‘no track’, then when look at the same movie again later (myevents or on Test & Register), the same movie will not match up.

Occurs when:
- Test & Register (in the ‘Correct’ or ‘Incorrect’ portion)
- VM and My Events

Information:
As far as I know, this is not occurring a lot. I only got two inquiries about this.

Please do the following to help us:
- Get the movie ID
(Only on VM: below the movie, right of your stat)

- Get the URL of the image, preferably one w/ track if there is one, if there’s none, any would do
(On Test&Reg & VM – right click, properties)

- On the 2nd viewing of the movie, get the Movie ID and the URL image
(In My Events or ‘Correct’ or ‘Incorrect’ portion of Test & Reg)

Issue #3: A change of image within the movie
For example, the last images suddenly jump another movie.

Occurs when:
- VM

Information: This is a result of the way the movies are compressed and not a bug with the VM. You can either click on the track if there is one or No Track/Bad Focus. As far as I know, it should occur infrequently, so we might not rescan some of them.

Issue #4: My Stat/ Scores are not adding up!

Information:
We have located the problem and it should now be fixed. Your rank and score should not change but the number of incorrect will (it was printing out a different number than what was intended).

Issue #5: Something funny with movie ID __________

Information: Please click on the movie. We will look at the movie later.

Issue 5 – JavaScript wouldn’t load images

This is a known issue, although we do not know the exact cause. Please ignore it as it should not happen that often, only 1 or 2 times out of 100.

However, if it is happening to every movie or every 10, let us know here on this thread.

______________________________________________________

We will update here and/or updates when we have resolved the error or need more information.

Please post a reply if there’s incorrect information or clarification.
Please also post only here if another issue not listed here occurs.

As always, please email us directly if there is an issue that might compromise the project (i.e. security hole, etc). My information is in my profile, as bmendez, and albutterworth.

We might not be able reply to everyone’s emails or questions right now, but we are looking into every issue.

Thank you,

Stardust@home Team

Nice, been waiting for something like this.
Might want to add something about the 'reached this page via an unusual route' people have seemingly randomly been getting.

I'd like to report a (double) occurence of issue #2, concerning movies 48151 and 17809 (that's the only information I can come up with). I don't know whether I was supposed to post this here, feel free to move it if not.

The calibration Movies (at least some of them) are in lower quality than the real ones which makes them easy to spot. You may choose if you call this an issue or not. Regards. P.

I just encountered something even weirder. I had an issue #3, but with a calibration movie, and a track continiuing into the lower (different) images.

Nicki

Update: same thing with 10668B.

Here's an issue #2: The movie 11571A was originally a calibration movie with 2 tracks(the other quite hard to spot). Now when I go back to myevents to look at it, it's another movie.

Getting that here too....then it says "the next image will not count" or something close to that....it happens when i was using the top "no track" button.

Issue #2 on Movie 23768
Looked like a calibration movie with a very obvious track but does not show the same in my events.

Edit

Problem was actually unusual route to page, movie above was not the movie in question. Please disregard.

I would like to report another issue that I (and others) encountered. It has already been mentioned in another post (Possible dust not registered after click) but it might be good to have it in this thread as well. When I try to register track it is not added to my events. The link to the specific movie can be found in my post in the above mentioned thread.

Zod, could you shorten up those links so they don't stretch the screen width and make us scroll left & right to read the rest? If you don't know how, hit "quote" on my post here to view its code, or read the help. To change your own post, click the "edit" in the upper right corner of your post.

encountered issues

I won't make comments on issue #3 which I have encountered frequently. Should someone want, I can provide a list of movie numbers.

Another phenomenon are pop-up-messages of the sort "JavaScript-Error. Cannot load image ... from ondeck movie" (20297B, 28958B, 9679A) or "JavaScript-Error. Cannot load image ... from next movie":
9119A (next movie was 20452B)
27977B (next movie was 27214B)

Had 2 or 3 wrongly answered calibration movies (didn't find the tracks) that really looked to me like there were no tracks in them, but I'm probably wrong about these
