~40% bad focus

Post by sutur »

in my humble opinion most of the real movies are quite useless because you can't really say that there is "no track". even if you get them in focus let's say in the middle of the range this may be not enough. the calibration movies teach us that often you have to focus really far down, up to 20-25 lines in some cases, from the point in which you got the surface focused, until you can make out the least little traces of a track and some more to be certain. that's because i've made it a habit to be quite generous with hitting the "bad focus"-button even if the focus of the surface lies a few lines beneath the middle of the range. what's your opinion on this?

Personally, I'm a little more generous with it.

If the surface is primarily at or about the 30% mark, I will usually accept the image. I've accepted them even worse on occasion, but it's only after examining the image repeatedly.

Normally, if I look at it and say to myself, "this one looks like I'm probably missing a lot," I'll mark it Bad Focus.

It's a judgement call.
