Or is the microscope going to be working on scanning more movies in the next few months?

Do you have a count as to how many movies there are currently?

Once we're up and running we'll post the focus movies as quickly as we produce them - probably in batches every few days.
Before we launch the VM we would like to have a few tiles scanned and processed so we can be confident we're past the false starts.

Can someone give an indication of the work size of the project? How many focus movies will be scanned? And will that be enough work so that all 100000+ potential volunteers can have their share? (although I doubt that all of the pre-registered people will actually be participating)

I think I've read that there will be close to 1.6 million. And since they are going to have 4 different people view each movie, that would be 6.4 million. Then they are supposed to put in calibration movies to make sure you really are looking for particles.

I don't think that there will be a problem of running out of movies anytime soon.

I'm interested to see how long it takes to complete as well.

The original forecast was about 6 months- a mere fraction of the twenty or so years if the return samples were examined traditionally.
There are a lot of variables though, even with a flawless performance on the technical end.

Ugh. I just wanna know when I can start searching! I'm going crazy waiting! I do want to thank the stardust@home team for all thier hard work though. But I'm dying here!

We're also going to have to rescan some of the tiles, so I wouldn't worry about running out of movies for everyone
