Rank not changing...

Post by das1989 »

My score has increased by 106 points, and the rank has not changed. Is this possible? I want to make sure the effort isn't wasted.. :)

Yes, same here - my rank hasn't moved at all this morning - maybe everyone else is working at the same rate as me :?

the same here
this several hours ago :
"Calibration Movies Answered Correctly 30
Calibration Movies Answered Incorrectly 0
Your Overall Score: 30
Total Real Movies Viewed: 70
Your Rank: 1647 out of 5667
Specificity: 100%
Sensitivity: 100%"

and now:
"Calibration Movies Answered Correctly 131
Calibration Movies Answered Incorrectly 2
Your Overall Score: 129
Total Real Movies Viewed: 399
Your Rank: 1647 out of 5667
Specificity: 100%
Sensitivity: 97%"

This does not seem reasonable to me at all.

And by the way, how is the ranking system based on?I'm getting a bit confused with the list of the"top100".

Rank is only recalculated periodically, not instantaneously.

Its not about the rank. Its about the science.

If you're here just for the number, go play tetris or something.

I agree with you.We are not only caring about the rank, but it IS a problem and it's somehow disturbing to some.

No, its NOT a problem, and its only disturbing to children.

The only scores anyone should care about are the two Percentage scores. They judge the quality of your work. If someone can't keep those in the high 90s, then they should run along and play.

Well, well, maybe I'm still a little childish now.I still hold that it's a problem ,but let's not argue on this issue.
As far as I know, there are some children here, and they are many I suppose,so this one, problem or not ,is not unimportant.I agree with you on the last paragraph you wrote.

Sorry, you are wrong.

I absolutely agree with you that this whole project is about science. But even for pure science the scientist needs to be motivated. Therefor it does not matter how childish it is, if a reasonable number of participants get disturbed and demotivated by the fact, that the only way to get personal recognition besides finding a piece of stardust is potenially polluted by cheaters, the stardust team should care.

Children should not be involved in this project.

This is your only source of Personal recognition? Get real!!!

Those who get disturbed and demotivated by the silly point scoring system are EXACTLY the ones who don't belong here in the first place.

hum...

I thought stardust@home had been designed precisely like this so that every 7-77 years old people could give an hand to find those tracks.

If you think only "serious" scientists should be allowed to help, be prepared to spend your time on that until you die.

I am 15 years old and you say I shouldn't participate in stardust@home just because I'm a child??

Total Real Movies Viewed: 617

I'm doing the best I can to find that dust and help the scientist :D

Okay folks. Please stop with the bickering. I will lock or delete any thread that devolves into such arguments.

If scores are not correctly being calculated it is a concern so far as it could create a bias that makes it more difficult for us to identify movies with likely tracks in them.

The absolute value of the score only creates a scaling effect. That's why those who attempt to cheat and raise their scores artificially are really just wasting their time.

People of all ages are welcome and encouraged to participate in this project.
