Saving or referring to movies

Post by Martino »

Will it be possible to save a movie to your computer, or just as well, to call up and view a particular movie you may have seen? This would be nice if you think you may have a track, or just an unknown object, and you want to discuss it with other people on the forum.

Thank you

I don't know what the real VM screen will look like, but as it is said to be only HTML and PHP code maybe you can use your browsers "Save web page as..." function and select the type "Complete web page" (or something similar) so that not only the HTML page is saved to disk but also all related images. Of course that would only make an offline snapshot, and I'm afraid you wouldn't be able to visit that movie again next time you log in to the VM.

If the actual VM is like the tutorials (I think so), the images are simply pre-loaded and made navigable by the sliders by using JavaScript. If you wanted to save an image of a track, you would only need to save the focused image by right-click/save as... and I believe all the images have a unique name which would identify it; here is an example of an image from tutorial 2 (size reduced).

We're developing a page that will have all the movies you viewed. However, it's only going to be an image and not a movie.

When you look at movies they are stored on your computer as temporary internet files, too. It is easier for me to copy them from there than to count bars and hope I didn't miss one while saving them individually as I view them. I worry that I will press the left mouse button instead of the right, registering a vote for some non-existent track.
