Re: This looks like a hit
Yep -- that's a particle (not a track) coming into focus, but not quite.SDsearcher wrote:This is my fourth hit, but the first one that looks like a slam dunk. What do you guys think?

I've flagged a number of these as well.

I second that. There are particles on the surface of the aerogel. You can tell by the fact that they all come into focus at the same time, and nothing nearby comes into focus BEFORE they do. If multiple somethings nearby comes into focus first, that is likely the surface of the aerogel. You want to go down from there.ToSeek wrote:It's not a calibration movie. But I would have marked that one "bad focus" because the spots in the lower left corner don't come into focus until the very bottom of the range.
Remember, the aerogel isn't perfectly flat. You have hills and plateaus to contend with, some worse than others.

What do you think
Hi everyone
When I focused down through this movie, as all the other spots are going out of focus, 2 spots in the lower left side are just starting to focus. I couldn't get a lower focus to see if these were indeed tracks or not so I marked 1 just in case. What do you think? I have a screen shot but don,t know how to include it.

Found a 'ring' track not a 'dot' track
I have a track on 42104 that has more traditional ring structure.
Having seen many 'small dot/fragment' tracks thus far, it is a thrill to find this one.
This appears NOT to be a calibration movie.
Any thoughts, comments.

I have to admit I liked the homeworkcthiker wrote:Damien -
Looks like you've done some homework! Good job!
Whether I think this is or is not space dust is not important...your enthusiasm is!! I only wish you were able to get the credit for finding it, regardless of the outcome. I saw a similar movie early on and did not identify it, but I might do so if I come across another, especially considering your insightful argument.
No matter - best of luck and here's to hoping that the "Damien" particle is out there awaiting you!!
I think it may be important if this is space dust because for us looking at hundreds of slices of aerogel it means that there is something out there to be found.
About me naming the particle I don't think this will happen because it's not on my list of events (browser issue in the first hours after the launch of the website). But I would not name it after myself anyway. I think Spiff (from Calvin and Hobbes "Spaceman Spiff") is much more appropriate 'cause Spiff always crashes his spaceship with a long trail of debris. I personally never crashed a spaceship, at least not yet
Wait and see!
Re: What do you think
There are at least two things in there that are getting smaller while everything else is getting bigger and fuzzier. About an inch up from bottom, and middle in left/right.Reg O wrote: Hi everyone

Another What Do You Think

That looks like a very dirty dust trail, or a thread.
It seems to extend below the surface and different sections of the thread come into focus as you focus up and down.

Remind me never to fly any space shuttles you're piloting!
Seriously, tho, good luck. I concede that tagging this for further review is better than not (which is what I think "icebike" was trying to allude to).
Good (and safe!) dusting!!!

Hidden track?
Hey guys, can you tell me what you think of this one?

It has been viewed 51 times, but Im the first one who found it. Could this be something?
I also want to share the best tracks Ive found so far:

Re: Hidden track?
I don´t see anything below the surface here. The point you have marked gets into focus the same level the surrounding structures do. The tile is pretty uneven here but you can clearly see the all structures go out of focus when you proceed to the bottom.Betelgeuze wrote:Hey guys, can you tell me what you think of this one?
