That movie does not look like a typical calibration movie to me, so I think it must be real if it is something, and not just a mislabeled movie.

There's nothing strange about that calibration movie from what I can see. Maybe I'm wrong, but all the screenshots looked normal to me, and very typical of a calibration movie.

You knew the rules when you signed up, so....
We didn't know that 23,000 other people would also sign up.

Just for the record, I am not in the top 500, and probably never will be. I'm just hoping that this will inspire a mad dash for position, thus furthering the science.

I sympathize. But aren't you asking for a lower common denominator? Is this the way we praise and reward those with the dedication and perserverance to achieve the top 100? Publishing a list of the top 500 doesn't change who's in the top 100, and just posting all the rewards wouldn't be as interest...

I disagree that the calibration movies are an effective way to train us.
For the most part, I certainly agree. While they are a basic way of training, you still have to scan about 300 real images before you are really going to have much experience.

I don't think it would be very difficult at all to expand the list. They have everyone's rank stored in their database already.

I just happen to be one of the lemmings who can run a little bit faster than the rest that's all.
Which means you're the first to fall off the cliff, of course.

Why just 200? I'd shoot for 500. That would allow a person to get into the rankings without having to die for it. Sure, being in the top 100 is a great honor, and those who have attained that goal have every right to be proud, but the rest of us won't ever make it there. However, a determined duster...

Still, I do think that this project can certainly be a computer science playground, as cerealkiller and the more recent version of that same program have shown. Whether they will actually accomplish anything is debatable, but there's nothing wrong with trying to get a computer to do the job. The wor...

When you install a computer in your car so that you can search for interstellar dust on your way to work each day. When you crash into a tree while doing this, but don't mind a bit because the crash accidentally hit your mouse button while it was positioned over a dust particle you hadn't noticed. A...

Ever heard of the old saying : To beat a criminal (Or in this case cheater/hacker), You have to think like one, Then you will be prepared . That's my philosophy. Forewarned is forearmed. Guess it never dawned on me that anyone would want to fake a certificate that has no value to anyone else...

To be perfectly blunt, you can cheat anytime you please in terms of getting all the certificates you want. Whoever named the certificate webpages named them all in such a naive fashion that I discovered that I could get to the webpages of any of the certificates merely by changing the web address a ...

I think about half of the crowd, i.e. around 10,000, have done next to nothing, if not nothing. I noticed this as I whizzed up through the rankings by leaps and bounds after scanning only a few score focus movies.
