Well, it sure seems like the opinion is about 2/3 that the new calibration movies are worse, and about 1/3 that they are better. I have to say that everybody agrees that they are harder, it's just a case of whether we agree that harder is better or not.

Uh, what's the point of this post? :?: Why didn't you just send them an email? If they aren't responding to that, they probably won't respond here, either. I haven't seen anything wrong with the calculations, but if you think there's something amiss, post a detailed thread on it and let us discuss i...

I've been missing more, that's for sure, but I think it's for the better. Those new calibration movies are keeping us sharp. Truth to tell, I like 'em a lot.

Thanks, 'elainekeefe' for the input. While I'm not sure if I'd agree with that on the whole, it does lay out the opposite view very well, and people can see both sides of the argument now and make an educated vote. :D

The New Calibration Movies

I have to say, I'm impressed by the new calibration movies. OK, so they might not be perfect, but I have to say that they have put some real effort into making them much more challenging. I'm finding a lot of calibration movies that have tiny little specks in them, which are a lot more realistic tha...

OK, you seem to have plenty of evidence to back you up.
Maybe they just haven't mentioned anything more about it yet. Also, perhaps they are waiting until phase II is over.

They haven't identified any particles for sure that I know of, so the answer to your question would be no, at least until further work is done.

Still, folks, I think that we should realize that the system is probably somewhat broken given its current state of operation, and probably ought to have a re-work. However, I think we also need to realize that it's not likely to happen. Indeed, if phase II turned out to be a complete and total clea...

What about spending the time writing a paper on Murphy's Law? :D Oh well, things do happen in life I guess. I'm in the same situation, since I'm just finishing up my college semester, and I'll be heading back to school only a week after phase II starts up. Everything that can go wrong, will go wrong...

Hey, a two week vacation for the dusters! Will we have to re-sign up for phase 2, or not? Will our identities remain the same and so forth?

Well, I hope that the project's still moving along all right, but I don't know for sure. I think that people are still scanning through an awful lot of movies, at least from what I can see on the scoreboards, so I'm assuming that things are still rolling along. However, it's hard to know just from t...

At least from my experience, I would say that those are all surface particles, and not dust tracks. They do not become more focused as you move below the surface, and thus are probably only surface artifacts. Here is a good example of a possible track that's very small. (It passed cut #1) The track ...

We are supposed to be having fun, here. That's hard to do when the system seems to be formatted against you. Guilty until proven innocent. Anyway, I haven't been hitting anything unusual at all. All my movies are being graded correctly so far as I can tell, which seems strange, since you'd think th...
