That one's got my vote as well, Wolter!! And I'll be dustin', slow and steady, right thru the end...whenever that may be.

Happy Trails (or should I say "Tracks")! :D

Re: Thanks for the replies

What it is, I think, more than anything else is that the calibration tracks on them are so hideously obvious (for the most part), but the ones without them seem to sometimes have residue splotches or something that looks to me like a potential track, but if I click it it gets counted against me and...

Well said, Shar (and thank you, speck )! As some have said before, this is a marathon, not a sprint. Considering that one estimate indicated the average volunteer participation required for timely completion of the project was (I believe) less than 5 minutes a week, don't sweat it! In my book, that ...

Re: I keep losing my purpose

sometimes I keep forgetting the bigger picture here and feel like I'm playing a rousing game of "Beat the Calibration Movie". "k" - I know that feeling! However, if it helps, here are some of my IMHO (in my humble opinion) observations... 1) It's been estimated that there are no...

The file is on its way as I type this. Good luck, and let me know if there are any problems.

Personally I don't care too much about too many false positives: it's not my job ;-) I trust that if the stardust team sees a problem they will react in a way or another to correct it. For example by adding false positives movies in the set of calibration movies. Secretly of course ;-) ;-) Damien (...

I did have this happen to me a few times (pretty rarely though), but I found that, for all but two cases, using the "Refresh" button on my browser corrected the problem. In those other two cases I just chose the "Bad focus" button, presuming that there was a problem with the came...

I think Spiff (from Calvin and Hobbes "Spaceman Spiff") is much more appropriate 'cause Spiff always crashes his spaceship with a long trail of debris. I personally never crashed a spaceship, at least not yet ;-) LOL!! Remind me never to fly any space shuttles you're piloting! Seri...

Damien - Looks like you've done some homework! Good job! :D Whether I think this is or is not space dust is not important...your enthusiasm is!! I only wish you were able to get the credit for finding it, regardless of the outcome. I saw a similar movie early on and did not identify it, but I might ...

icebike -

Thank you for your comments. I accept that your viewpoint differs from mine. Good luck with your "dusting" (and same as well to Damien and WeBeGood)!

Re: Nice lateral track with stardust visible

The surface of the aerogel in the upper left is at around frame 2 from the top. So the micrometeor would be very deep in the aerogel. Hi WeBeGood! Thought you might find this helpful - a quote from The Planetary Society's Stardust FAQ site ( http://www.planetary.org/programs/projects/stardustathome...

Tim (et al) - Here's my 2 cents... What I've been using as a 'standard' is the letter "d" in "Focus down"...if I can't get the surface to focus at that point or higher (about 8-10 frames from the bottom) I generally consider it out of focus. I sometimes add to that a check for th...

I've noticed that sometimes I click on a picture and I don't get the pop up window that asks me, "Do ya think ya found something?" I know it sounds silly, but did you check the pop-up blocker on your browser? Had something similar happen to me - if you're using IE you can add the site &qu...

Nikita - Glad to be of help...that's the reason the Forum exists, IMHO. And, yes, I agree about "too high" generally not being a problem. Some movies can't even focus at the surface because it's too high, but so long as nothing is in-focus further down there can't be any tracks (I consider...

Thanks for all you help and hard work. My question is in regard to the focus. I've seen several where the focus is too high or too low. I've clicked "bad focus" but I was wondering if you have an acceptable range. Hi Nikita! What I've been using as a 'standard' is the letter "d"...
