simular

Hi kari, Ha, ha, :D Even the numbers on the URL are simular! I couldn't pass that up. Most(not all)of what I have seen on these two pages are not down into the aerogel. In other words they are on the surface. Please remember, the tracks are down below the surface, below all the black or dark gray su...

Tile to movie

Hi greuti, it would be great to have an overlook where each movie is located on the collector. If the movie numbers (ID number right?) relate to coordinates, is it possible to explain how they're related and is there even a coordinate map from the collector that you can post here? The plan is to try...

Which tile did this movie come from?

Hi icebike, Can movie numbers be attributed to any specific tile (by us - without resorting to your database)? The short answer is no. The reason is that the movie numbers relate to coordinates on the collector(which holds the tiles) not to each tile. This way the microscope can return to those coor...

How many movies

Hi zuben el genubi,

I know you have probably seen this page:
http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... c.php?t=78
Look it over. The green ones are about 4000 movies each that are ready. All the rest of the tiles are yet to be done and will come on-line as we go.

Thanks,

secret

Hi (fellow) stardust track searchers, I use three pairs of glasses. The trifocal is for when I lean back. The reading is for 18 inches away. Then if I need to check a possible track, I bring out a pair of magnifying glasses. Do not abuse your eyes though. Take some breaks every two or three days. :o...

Hi jovada, "Your score is the total number of calibration movies you have identified correctly minus the number of calibration movies you have answered incorrectly. " Have you already figured it out yourself? 246 "identified correctly" -13 "answered incorrectly" equals ...

Atus

Hey Atus,
I clicked that same spot:http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ ... e_id=47027
Now that I look at it again, you have to click it. From the particle to the right and top, that looks like the surface?

We'll find out for sure later.
Thanks,

Just below surface

Hi Tim, Sounds like to me you know what you are doing. First find out if you are above or below the surface. If just below like you said, look for tracks. You can also tell that you never quite get down to the surface. This is bad focus. Now, something to get me in trouble: If I am a good bit below ...

Dirty Screen?

Hello, what do we have here? One more spot in microscope lens. The fourth constant speck is half way down, right of center. It really shows up on those movies that look like a blank screen. I have spit on my screen and cleaned it off, but It's still there. These spots are valuable in calibrating one...

Re: Bad focus: any official statements?

I would like the Stardust@Home team to officially comment on the high proportion of out of focus movies. Is this a real and known issue? Paolo Hi Paolo, I have looked at a few movies. You are correct that there are some movies where the view never goes below the surface. I am not seeing that many m...

Guns and knives

I saw a knife blade. I marked it just because the Stardust scientist told us to look for something unusual. We should not mark these structures. I only did it one time. I wonder if these bright reflections are the microscope light reflecting off of real glass? I believe Aerogel is silica made in a d...

Calibration movie

Hi Bryan Mendez, Six times on the same calibration movie with the large track easily visible, when you click the hole in the doughnut, it registers as a miss. A miss means that this is not a calibration movie, but it is indistinguishable from the other large tracks. So, there is a calibration movie ...
