I've mentioned this before, I think the biggest issue here is people looking for particles (notice the button called No TRACK). And when people are below surface, when they see a dot in focus they assume it is a particle. They ignore the fundamental issue of how it GOT there, if there was no layers...

There were extra images in some movies, discussed in other areas. I was at someone's house recently, they were showing us some travel photos, I found myself paying extra attention to odd lighting artifcats and such. Hopefully this doesn't ruin my interest in photography ;-)

I would assume that for the most part the movies are being sent to you randomly. There have been a few times that I have recognised a movie taht I'd seen before. Given the sample size, it won't happen too often. But given the number of people doing this and the number of movies some have seen (I'm ...

Di,

I suggested in another thread that it would be neat if the movies were in batches (30 or 40 thousand at a time) and with each new batch, the scores were reset. A cumulative could still be kept, but resetting them every so often would be much more encouraging for late-starters and such.

Two lines of thought to that. Keeping in mind... Validity: is it doing the right thing. Reliability: is it doing it well. Keeping in mind that reliability is a necessary but not sufficient criteria for validity. You can be measuring something consistently, but consistently wrong. Reminds me of my h...

And I have one, as mentioned in another thread, that I selected just to see how many flags it would have. It comes into focus in the bottom layer or two, and yet 8/21 have flagged it (38.1%) compared to your 37.3%. Just mentioning it as an indication of how unreliable we might be as a collective. A...

I should think that trusting the judgement of the people that are running the show is in order. If they think there should only be 1 in 40000 movies with tracks, then you shouldn't be flagging one in five. If they feel the tutorials will at least get us reasonably prepared then so be it. We are wai...

There are some callibration movies that have VERY SMALL tracks showing up only in the last few focus layers.

I'm becoming less and less sure of that, given some of the things that are being flagged.

Actually it isn't completely counter productive. It's trying to get people to clean up the boards a bit so people would know more about what's going on. Many things keep getting repeated in all sorts of different places because 1) people aren't taking the time to look around and 2) even if you try ...

A start would be the feedback for people and maybe that is best achieved by suspending operations for us for a while. On time. Off time. Sort of thing. Time where they aren't getting peppered by our enthusiasm, and a chance to address the many issues cropping up. I'm REALLY hoping that the movies w...

Ironically, I think people not knowing well enough what they are doing (because there are so many of them...us? ;-) will have a far greater impact than the supposed cheaters. Nice to hear that multiple logins works, but as someone who had four windows open first couple days, I have not been able to...

A button for...

Dots.
Fuzzy rings.
Neat artifacts.
And ballerinas of course.

The problem, as I see it...

The first one you circle starts off showing out of focus rings. Then comes into focus. Then shows out of focus rings again. Which would seem to indicate that it is nothing more than something in the gel. Rather than something that has penetrated the gel.

And so on...

http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/myevents_viewer.php?movie_id=19603 Another. Same thing. The problem is not enough people knowing what they are doing. Or rather, far too many that don't. Too many don't understand that a ring getting smaller, coming to a point, then getting bigger, is precisely...
