[To the MODs - I see two possibilites for this thread: lock it to save everyone from protracted wrangling, or make it a sticky as a warning to those who are tempted!!] Heh. Actually we're trying to treat this with a light touch if possible. If the folks who got zeroed out wish to plead their case, ...

This comment might help or hinder, but I find it helps me to keep in mind that this isn't a video game.

If I start getting bored, or if life interferes, I simply walk away for awhile and go do something else.

My tuppence, anyways.

I'm surprised that a team for the project is so small. I would think that there would be many scientists and computer scientists and even just people who would be taught how to program the website to show the things we request for helping us learn better to help the project. Big team = big budget. ...

Re: Calibration Suggestion

I would like to suggest that those of us with more than 500 calibration movies and over 97% accuracy should not have to continue to look at calibrations. It is getting so obvious now that I can spot where the dust particle is going to be before I start to focus the movie!!! I've also noticed that y...

I'm pretty close to that figure, but I'm closing in on 700 movies with 7 incorrect (at least a couple of which were incorrectly marked movie errors). I actually close the address bar so I can't see the URL. (I hit the F11 key in Internet Explorer) I admit I've gotten to where the calibration movies ...

Re: Simple three pointed star with faint large track

First I was going to post this on the interesting topic but then I noticed a very large but faint track directly under the three pointed star pattern. It starts to resolve on the lowest focus bar. What do you guys think, is this anything? http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/myevents_viewer.php?m...

I believe. ;-)

How about this picture perfect lateral track? http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/myevents_viewer.php?movie_id=24625 It even shows a ring strucure at the entrance. Interesting. This one's hard to make a call on because it drops to the bottom of the focus bar too early. It's a definite possibilit...

Considering how rare true particle tracks are, the odds are very high against finding two in a slide.

If you DO find two on a single slide, just click one. If enough people flag the slide, the scientists will examine the whole slide and they will both be caught.

Re: Need better examples of large tracks...

If anyone has pics of the real deal, I'd like to see them. Post links to them at will! 3 so far in this thread: http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=279 These are examples of lateral (i.e., not head-on into the aerogel) tracks which are clearly not inclusions. The third one ...
