Re: Orion - first interstellar candidate?

Things will be made somewhat clearer when Update #6 is posted. When that happens, I'll provide the link here. As promised, here's the link to Update #6: http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ispe_update/#six But you should also check out the latest blog entry at http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley....

Re: Orion - first interstellar candidate?

John, Here's some follow-up as promised: There is no mention of Al in the abstract because at the time of the abstract deadline the team had no measurements of Al. Now we do, and as mentioned, the Al is non-metallic Al. But we don't know yet what phase it is. Things will be made somewhat clearer whe...

Re: movie 1522634V1

Yes it does have a track, but when I tested it myself, I got neither a correct nor an incorrect score. I'll look into this and get back to you.

Re: Orion - first interstellar candidate?

Hi John, Great questions! As far as I know, CI (as in the letter "i", not the number "1") refers to "CI-like" (i.e., like the CI group of meteorites, named after the Ivuna meteorite; see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbonaceous_chondrite ). As far as the aluminum goes, I asked the very same questi...

Re: "I think I've found a track, what do you think?"

Movie 64479V1 here looks very good (only really visible when zoomed as far down as possible), but only 3 people have viewed it at all (all 3 agreed that it looked track-y). This seems unusual, normally it's in the 30s... maybe it's a new one? - vultur-10 What are the coordinates where you think thi...

Re: Improvement to search facility

Would it be possible to adjust the ability to search by allowing zoom in and out on the sample? If I use my explorer view/zoom I can no longer focus on a suspected object if the zoom goes above 200%. Allowing the scroll button to zoom in on a pre-focussed object would help in identifying it. Or is ...

Re: Where have all the "DUSTERS" gone?

JD,

Check out the latest news flash at http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/blog.php. Not boring at all in my opinion. But the gist is, get ready for Phase 3 and some re-training! (details to come)

Re: I answered a calibration movie right but was scored wrong

Thanks Dan, my main concern is that if i'm getting these calibration movies wrong i may also be making mistakes on the real movies, i've come across 40 CM's so far and gotten 4 wrong, however on reviewing them i still can't find my mistake.. there seem to be several prominent tracks which all have ...

Mikoto wrote:Anyone care to venture an opinion on this one, it looks like a definate track to me just comes into focus far below the surface at approximately 490,30 in the top right corner. However of 34 people only 4 agree.
Sometimes it only takes 4! (more on that in January)

Re: Weekly trends

Thanks for that update John. All I can say at this point is that you will definitely be hearing from us in January, that there will be a Phase 3, and things will definitely be different (although not exactly as we originally thought). More soon! In the meantime, here's hoping everyone has a wonderfu...

Re: I answered a calibration movie right but was scored wrong

Hi Mikoto, Thanks for your interest in Stardust@home and welcome! I looked at those movies in the database, and they have been scored correctly many times by many dusters. However, they are definitely tough ones, and the only hint I can provide is that they are very small compared to what else is on...
