Evelyn Rhodes Smith

Fellow Dusters, Anyone who’s been part of our Stardust@home community for any length of time will remember Evelyn – user name ERSTRS. She was (since August 2006) a very active duster and presence in the forum for all seven phases of aerogel searching and into the first phase of foils. In 2018, Evely...

Re: How Much Longer

Hi, Superluminal. I'm not in a position to provide a definitive answer, but if you've been keeping up with the recordings of our monthly teleconferences that Dan has been posting, you probably have the sense that we can count on a few more years anyway. I think we've still quite a ways to go on the ...

Re: Third Thursday Telecons

Thanks, John. I'd read a nice review of the film (from the Smithsonian, I think), but they had not mentioned the bracelet. Armstrong's son was particularly pleased with the film's excellent portrayal of his mother. You are right, of course, about LASER having devolved from acronym to a generic term....

Re: Third Thursday Telecons

Interesting interview, John, thanks. I was curious about the use of the term "Nasa" in the article, instead of NASA. Is it one of those fun differences between British and American English that acronyms are not fully capitalized? I read "The Economist" regularly and hadn't notice...

Re: Multi-Craters Movie? Check it out!

This one certainly commands attention, Fatima. My focus, however, would be on the two more prominent features to the right. I can see your interest in numbers 1, 5, & 6, but to me there are other similar features at least as compelling elsewhere. The larger two on the right (and a couple others)...

Re: Weird Views in FOILS

Hey, I see the duck and the dragon! - but my first thought on the dragon was that it was another cow. Wow, don't get me started. I agree, Dan, Augusto is clearly a Master.

That's a neat idea, Dan. I'll recuse myself from voting since I'm already heavily involved in that project --- but oops, I already said it's a neat idea … , oh well.

Re: Calibration Views Vs Crater Views Part 2

I know Augusto thought they were too frequent, but I don't think I'd want them eliminated entirely. My eyes are not what they used to be, and a couple of the smaller calibrations don't jump out at me like they used to. I'd be fine reducing the frequency, but would still like to have them pop up ofte...

Yes, Fatima, John's correct. That looks very much like a fiducial mark to me as well.

Re: Duster with calibration views be like

Yes, John, the first time I ever spotted a fiducial mark I was (temporarily) quite excited as well, although not with the kind of ramifications you describe! Thanks for sharing.

World Alzheimer's Day Catchathon:

You likely know our Stardust@Home project helped inspire a multiplicity of other citizen science projects. Notably, that includes the Stall Catchers website and game to help advance Alzheimer's research at Cornell University. You might have seen Stall Catchers featured on a PBS special* regarding ci...

Great exchange, Guys, thanks! At the moment there are six people logged in to this forum (me and five "guests"). How long has it been since we've had that much action?
Yay 42, Augusto!

Hi, John. Good to hear from you. I've not seen anything more current, but perhaps Andrew will have an update from Moscow. Mike

Fatima, I think that second image might be one of those Martian fish Augusto was hoping for.
