Wow! Each movie frame bites only 5 microns? That's the width of a red blood cell! I fervently hope when the bad focus movies are retaken, that they increase the depth to 10 microns at least! I don't think it will affect our ability to identify tracks, and it should allow almost all of the movies to ...

Sunnydaves: I think they're inclusions, too. None of them stays in focus to the bottom of the focus range, and they're multiple, at multiple levels. The odds of multiple tracks in one movie are miniscule (just like the particles  ).

jsmaje, did you click on it as a possible track? I would in case it might be a low-angle one!

Also, I wonder how clean the air filters in the scope room are--we're seeing lots of terrestrial dust for a "clean" environment, it seems!

And the search goes on... 8)

I can view the same movie from both links in your last message. I see on the right side a couple of dark spots that seem to be in focus for too many frames to be inclusions. Maybe they are small tracks, but they don't go all the way down to the last frame as I see it on my monitor. I may not be seei...

Howie's movies

Howie: I'm not sure if you want feedback on these 2 movies or not, but in case you do, my opinion is that 8989575V1 is showing inclusions, no tracks. The second movie 5964203V1 shows what I think is surface debris on the right and near the left edge. And I think elainekeefe has a real track on 75411...

Refreshing has never worked for me. I almost always try to evaluate the movie as is. Will try your suggestion, jsmaje!

Micrometeorite?

Anyone else think this could be a micrometeorite (upper right corner)? If you have other ideas, I'd sure like to hear them!

I always find your posts interesting. I have to say, I find the tracks in new CM's easier to spot. The background is smoother, and they almost always have that telltale black "cloud" just before they come into view. They pretty much just jump right out at you. Might the black "cloud&...

Suggestion for deeper focus field

Many inclusions appear at the bottom of the focus field, and a fair number of movies are "bad focus". For the areas not yet examined, and for the regions that need repeat focus movies, I have a suggestion. Might the team consider increasing the increments between each frame of the focus mo...

This looks exactly like the kind of dust particle I see often on my slides at the hospital. There I just blow it off (literally!) :)

I can only tell you what I have heard--that Vista is not entirely compatible with a lot of current applications, that there are problems with the new Internet Explorer version that comes with Vista, and that it will be some time before vendors make compatible software. The hospital where I work will...

java error messages are gone!

Tonight I got not one Java error message for movies loading without all the frames. Just got the usual white frame for the missing ones. Did Stardust change something? Because I don't have Earthlink like Howie, and I don't see any other mention of a solution being applied. It speeds things up consid...

Increase depth between frames to increase total depth

Sorry if this suggestion has already been made. I haven't had time to read all the suggestions in the suggestion thread. Here it is: Since tracks stay in focus for 10 or more frames, generally, why not increase the focus distance between each frame of the movie by, say, 50% or even 100%? Then I woul...
