Re: Weird Views in FOILS

An amazing match McAngus, one of your best.
But who'd have known that landing on the moon makes your right arm fall off! Have NASA yet had the nerve to acknowledge this side effect?

Meanwhile, many congratulations on your recent particle track find. Have you named it yet?

Thanks Dan and Dr. Stroud for that really helpful info and link.

Re: Third Thursday Telecons

The latest 15th November Thursday telecon was one of the best I've watched, mostly due to Brad De Georgio's very clear reasons to have strict selection criteria for identifying foil impacts. He talked about the feature-recognition software they've developed and its limitiations. I attempted to write...

Re: Third Thursday Telecons

No Mike, most Brits do usually respect capitalised acronyms. After all, most of us claim to live in the UK or GB (not Uk or Gb). But I very much doubt you always write LASER instead of laser, for example. Or do you? Meanwhile, if it hadn't been for finding that interview with Mark Armstrong on their...

Re: Third Thursday Telecons

Thanks for your comprehensive response Dan, and I see that Zack has now supplied extra info regarding Fatima's copper foil, including a magnificent meteorite sectional picture: http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=4017#p21008 . Damn, I'd looked forward to earning a f...

Re: Duster with calibration views be like

Hi TitritEL (Fatima). I refer to your very own post of Fri Jul 21 2017 to the forum, where you say: "...every time i discover a track and see everyone else from the team clicked and we all like 35 or more on the same page! then that comment that its a fiducial mark, makes my whole day!!" S...

Re: Duster with calibration views be like

I know the feeling TitritEL, having once excitedly posted a convincing "midnight track" (we haven't heard that term used lately) during one of the early phases, annotating it with a 'WOW !", like the SETI Wow! signal of 1977. I actually got so drunk that night in celebration that I wa...

Re: Third Thursday Telecons

I really enjoyed the last telecon on 20 Sept with Anna Butterworth. Her enthusiasm is so infectious. But as a Brit, currently living "up north" in Manchester with a father from Huddersfield, I couldn't detect anything in her accent to suggest she'd ever been a Yorkshire lass; there was mor...

Re: Third Thursday Telecons

The challenge is accepted. The prize: a beer, of course! Did you know that the Scots say the word beer as we Italians (birra)? Augusto Great, Augusto! I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Yes, the Scots do like to roll their "R"s (be careful how you pronounce that!) How might I...

Re: Third Thursday Telecons

Oh Augusto, you are such fun! I've found a Wikipedia picture of an ancient carving, supposedly of the original Angus: Óengus mac Fergusso ("Angus son of Fergus"), who was king of the Picts in Scotland until he died in 761 AD, his kingdom (like others throughout England) soon to be disrupte...

Re: Third Thursday Telecons

Hey, thanks for this month's telecon (August '18). If only such honest and informative responses from the team had existed earlier and throughout the project. And had been made accessible so quickly on the site. These are lessons to be learnt for future citizen science projects. How lovely to see It...

Re: Foils what looking for Interstellar Dust really Takes from Instruments Technology view

Hi Fatima (TitritEL). I like your experiments to demonstrate how tricky it can be to get a clear picture in Al foil, or anything come to that! For example, here's a photo of Dr. Andrew Westphal at the Johnson Space Center examining a Stardust cometary track in the most recently published 'The Planet...

Re: Beyond the Dusting: WEIRD VIEWS RELOADED

Thanks McAngus for that convincing evidence in support of my hypothesis that ancient symbology was embedded in the aerogel by who-knows-who-or-what-or-why. Responding to Evelyn's post about 5 years ago concerning a large, perfectly circular aerogel artefact with central blob (no longer available), I...

Re: Third Thursday Telecons

Thanks Dan and particularly Dr. Westphal for those extensive and fascinating answers to my questions. It's good to know that, even aged 70, my intuition isn't yet wandering too far off the mark!
