I think what we are seeing now is that there are in fact two errors happening that result in the same javascript error message: (1) The random failed requests to Amazon and (2) corrupted images in some of the movies. We will begin working on having the code simply try again whenever a request fails...

Re: javascript wouldn't load movies

I am having this problem frequently (~3-4 in 50)-I don't really keep track of the number. Typically I refresh the image and it is ok; sometimes it is not enough and I will select bad focus. Occasionally, my score is affected. I am not quite sure what to do when the script repeatedly won't load comp...

Re: Orientation of gel?

The aerogel was (and still is) held in a frame, with only one side (the top) exposed. All particles have to have impacted that top surface. Interstellar particles are expected to have near vertical tracks (although it is not known exactly how near). Local dust (interplanetary, cometary) could have s...

Re: Film 5098470V1 changes complete content

Hi, in the hope I don't hurt any forum rules I'm too ... busy to read 8) Film 5098470V1 chages its complete content at the very end on a focus. Unfortunately it counted a wrong answer. MFG realHans http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/myevents_viewer.php?id=5098470V1 Yep. Sure does. There a...

We are working on removing the reporting of the error message. Indeed it is an explicit choice, and we had pondered whether or not we really wanted to do that or not, since we do want to know when unusual things happen, but we recognize that it is annoying also. We've discovered, for example, that ...

Hi all, Thanks for the info. We are looking into these. There haven't been any new CMs added in months so it is a little strange that these CMs with bad focus are just now coming to light. Not all that surprising. Most people will simply click on bad focus and never notice that these are calibratio...

Re: No real problems here

I'm in Dallas, TX using IE 7 on a XP Pro PC and a 6Mbps DSL connection. The only real issue I've had is missing movie images causing javascript errors but the movie still loads, just without the missing frame(s). I would stick an IfExists command in there to check the image before serving so it doe...

I have tried the using the back button but it did not give me the same movie I just looked it gave me a new one? I would expect that to happen if you are trying to back up to the fir...

Load error reports

Could we eliminate the error reports when a frame fails to load? These serve no purpose whatsoever and only slow things down. They are not caused by the user, there is nothing the user can do about them. The gaps in the load bars, and the missing frames themselves, serve as ample warning that there ...

I've been having a lot of calibration movies that have really obvious tracks in them that apparently the site says don't have tracks. I started saving pics after it killed my score. I had none wrong for the first twenty calibration movies and now whenever I see something that looks like a track I k...

Re: Is there an incompatibility with FireFox2?

... Firefox does not support the confirmation box. That does not affect the operation, other than you have no way to recover from an inadvertant click. What happens when you run through the test (by not logging on you can take the test as often as you want)? That will bring up a lot more calibratio...

Re: Calibration movie 6452137V1

Tom, the ID number is a code that is used to generate the real ID number in the database and not an actual ID number for the movie. 6452137V1 was the next movie in your link, the on-deck movie was 8553830V1 which is in fact a negative calibration movie (i.e. it has no track). I would agree that thi...

Re: Calibration movie 6452137V1

Do you have the VM ID# correct? 6452137V1 is a real movie that looks quite normal, it is not a calibration movie. I thought all calibration movies have the same ID's as real movies. So that ID should be both a real movie and a callibration movie. IAC the link I posted (behind the text) brings up a ...
