A name is just that a name. For scientific identification they wil most likely get some ugly number. So use your own name, why not, most comets are named after those who discovered them. Or give them a fancy name you like. But I don't like the idea of remembring people or events in naming something...

I have passed e-mailes with one of the Berkley folks about the e-mail. They were still working on setting up the e-mail stuff as of the first of the month.
