I have to agree with you: I've gotten 4 wrong because there was supposed to be a track there, but I could see absolutely nothing that came CLOSE to looking like a track. Then, when I finally decided to click on another doubtful track, it turned out THAT one was supposed to be empty! This can ...

I sure hope the real ones aren't as tough as this one is: I even had a tough time seeing it on my pc at work...a MUCH faster pc, with better graphics, than I have at home! Ouch!

I sure hope there aren't too many of those small tracks like in focus movie #11 of the tutorial: that's one TOUGH track to spot! I had a VERY difficult time identifying that as a track. If that had been a 'live' focus movie, I would not have identified it as a track at all.

Nikita-

The word originated with Swift. It came from his name for the country that the giants lived in: Brobdingnag. His name for the little people has also come into common usage as a definition of something very small: Lilliputian, after his country of Lilliput, where everything was very small.

[quote="Nikita"]For those of us with a lower vocabulary:

Brobdingnagian \brob-ding-NAG-ee-uhn\, adjective:
Of extraordinary size; gigantic; enormous.

quote]

Weren't the Brobdingnagians the giants that Gulliver met up with in Gulliver's Travels?

I have to believe that they have more than 12 green tiles by now, unless some that were marked green before had to be redone or there were other serious problems in the process. In any case, an actual current update would be much appreciated. I think we're going to get underway on Monday, July 17. ...

Keep your eye on this picture: http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=78 The planning is that when there are 12 green tiles the show will start rolling. This picture hasn't been updated since June 26th. It would be nice to at least know what the current status is on the scanni...

Re: What's the 'calibration movies'?

quote="bmendez"] Each volunteer will get a score based on how well they do with "calibration" movies that will be shown to them at random. The calibration movies are movies that we know ahead of time to contain or not contain a track. The volunteer won't know when they are viewin...

As Wolter described, you will need only to click on the location in the focus movie where you think a track is located. It doesn'matter which frame of the movie you click on. The location of the click will be recorded, and then the next movie will load. Or if there is no track or the movie has a ba...

I definitely agree with sb126k. I can't wait for this to go live! I hope to be able to stick with it until the last of the 1.6 million movies have been examined. :)

My personal opinion is that the question of ‘god’ has little or no place in science, and is best left to an individual and their quest for meaning. I strongly disagree with this statement. Many scientists throughout history, including Isaac Newton, considered by most to be THE greatest scientist in...

I have operated mainframe computers for about 34 years. I have always had a love for science. At age six, after I got my first library card, the first book I ever checked out was on astronomy. I learned the names of the 9 known planets from that book. :)

Education?

I had 1 year of college, then joined the US Navy. I later went to a technical college to get an A+ certification (for pc repair). I never got to use the A+ certification. Most of my work has been with mainframe computers (operations). Oh, well! :)
