The information in this PDF suggests that the CIDA was not movable and that the detector gathered interstellar information during Stardust orbit loops 1 and 2 on the outward bound direction while headed into the interstellar wind, while the aerogel collection phase occured roughly 180 degrees on the opposite side of the orbit during Stardust's inward bound portions of it's orbit loops 1 and 2 while heading away from the interstellar wind.
