The fact that the Aerogel is silica glass, I would imagine that it would be isotropic. However, since it is also comprised of a latice, I'm not sure. Also, just by the nature of the tracks, I would venture to guess that the slides are in plain polarized light as it is. Other features in the aerogel ...

I think vtorres means resolution. In that case it is 500x375 pixels for 187,500 pixels all together. Like fjgiie said, there are 40 images per movie, so the total resolution would be 7,500,000 pixels.

I figure I have 2 hours between the project going live, and the beginning of my line shift. And with temps approaching 100 outside, I doubt I will be able to leave all that soon. So, hopefully, I can at least make those two hours count. :D Good luck everyone, and let's hope we find a few dust partic...

Oh thank you my nVidia GeForce FX 6200 GPU and vibrant 17" screen. That is a tough one and if that is the nature of the interstellar dust, then we won't be breezing through this as fast as some of us thought. I do have to say, the stardust aerogel is a LOT cleaner then I had thought. Mir ...

Sweet! Someone answered the questions! :D Few things though, I would have accepted chondrites (rocky meteorites) for #8 and I have actually seen and held one of the oldest dated sedimentary rock. But anyway, you were right on there. Your turn Ferrum

Agreed, it's probably one of the coolest identification techniques in the geosciences. That, SEM, and Petroscopes.

Aquila, By the way, I meant that watching the ISS & Shuttle in space is cool, not that you mentioned seeing Mir in space and showing your age. Sorry! When I reread that after it posted I thought "I'm probably hated now...." Don't worry, I actually got a laugh out of that. :D Oh, Alex4...

Another reason to consider, at least for the forum, is that there are a lot (note most) of people who don't speak or read english. So a project and forum that is in a language they do not know would not have the same appeal.

Note that we also haven't seen much of the Berkeley staff here lately. I think they are closed for the week. I wouldn't blame them though, they have been working really hard on this one.

http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=78 The picture is updated periodically, usually every day. The team here does realize how much we want to start the project and they have been keeping us up to date on the process. Here are a few things that they have said about the movies...
